Custom home office, Ashford Kent
We recently installed this stunning home office for our client’s home near Ashford, Kent.
Our client works in London but also from home a couple of days each week. She asked us to create some comfortable and functional bespoke office furniture to fit a corner space in an outbuilding, used as her home office. The period building featured rustic, heavy oak beams and we took these into account when suggesting materials for the project. Sourcing super-thick solid oak slabs, we created a chunky corner desk in oak, sympathetically stained with a rich, deep plum mahogany stain to tie-in with the existing beams, mineral oil finished and buffed to a lustrous shine.
Below the desktop we fitted twin plinth units, each with a bank of drawers to house the essentials for homeworking: files, stationary, notebooks and pens. The units were spray finished throughout in Dulux Willow Tree to perfectly co-ordinate with the room decoration. The drawers were fitted with pressure latches (tap to open) to avoid the need for handles and so maintain a clean, minimal aesthetic.
“I’m so thrilled with my new furniture. I didn’t really know what I wanted and Richard did a great job of turning my rough ideas into proper designs. The cabinets and desk have all been installed beautifully, which was challenging in itself given the quirks of our home. Thank you Richard!”
